Easter Activity Ideas for Service Users

The clocks going forward recently has brought about a change in mood as longer daylight hours and improved weather mark the arrival of spring. Easter is also just around the corner, with all the joys that it brings around renewed hope, faith, flowers and chocolate.

If you’re stuck for easter activity ideas for use in care homes, community centres or residentials, we’ve got some fun, last minute ones to consider.

The meaning of Easter

Remind people of the meaning behind Easter celebration by using readings, reflection or poetry. Many service users might want to observe the origins of Easter by attending a church service nearby.

Easter Egg Hunt

Eggs are inevitable this time of year. You could hide eggs around the home or centre for service users to find. You could also encourage individuals to paint and decorate their own eggs or easter themed pottery.

Planting Flowers

Flowers, springtime and Easter go hand in hand. If you’d like to add to the festive Easter feelings, consider making flower garlands or posies to sit at someone’s bedside.

You can get people involved by holding a flower arranging afternoon, encouraging service users to be creative and have some fun.

Afternoon Tea Party

Everyone loves an afternoon tea, and laying a table with Easter’s pastel colour palette can look magical. You can supply sandwiches, cheese, biscuits, cake and any other themed snacks and even invite friends and family members over for it.

Easter Quiz

The best thing about activities like quizzes and bingo games is that they can be adapted to fit any theme you like. So, who not plan an easter quiz and bingo afternoon?

You could give away easter eggs as prizes, and have individual’s team up to answer Easter related questions. You could also print word searches, logic puzzles and crosswords for people to have a sit down and a brew with.

Crafts

Getting involved in crafts can help cognitive ability, dexterity, stress relief and can help reduce blood pressure. Easter crafts could consist of easter tree decorations, displays, wreath making, easter card making and bonnet crafting.

Or, if you’re a fan of chaos, you could try filling a table with Easter art supplies and seeing what people come up with.

Family and Friends

It’s always good to encourage individuals to stay connected with their loved ones. You can enable your service users to send easter cards to family and friends, buy easter gifts for their loved ones and you could also facilitate video calls that people can enjoy.

We don’t realise it, but getting service users involved in Easter activities can really make a difference. It gives individuals an opportunity to socialise and can have a huge impact on their mental wellbeing. Getting involved stimulates the mind and keeps people active. Whether you’re crafting, baking or simply eating some chocolate and having a good old chat, there are many ways to have fun and positively impact someone’s day.

We know you’ll be doing everything you can to ensure the people you support and care for have an amazing Easter. Feel free to share pictures of your Easter activities with us on our socials, we’d love to see what you get up to!
